How Long Halt Ye Between Two Opinions

I Kings 18:21 reads, “And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.”

Many people who call themselves Christians today seem to “halt between two opinions”. Indeed, they can’t seem to make up their minds, or they think that they can follow ' some of ' the things of the world and still follow God. The above verse states: “If the LORD be God, follow HIM!” It would be better to never call oneself a Christian than to follow after Baal (the devil and his worldly system) and say you are one. God is not the author of confusion! (1 Corinthians 14:33)

The apostles “left all” and “followed” Him (Luke 18:28). Many of those who call themselves Christians today (and I am talking about Born Again Christians) live their lives for themselves, not for the Savior. They are not “following”. They are Christians in name only, while their lives and lifestyles are not a witness for Christ. II Corinthians 5:17 reads, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” This verse does not say some things, or several things, it does not even say many things, but ALL THINGS Become New! The evidence of a true Child of God is a CHANGED LIFE!

In truth, we are all sinners with a selfish nature. If we feed the flesh, fleshly desires, etc., we can quench the Spirit of God living in us to the point where we do not look like or act like a Christian. The original meaning of “Christian” was “little Christ” or “like Christ.” Do we as Christians look and act like Christ did when He walked this earth? If someone came up to you and said, “I am just like you,” it might be fine with you if they were a good, upstanding, courteous (and everything else you would want to be seen as) person. However, if they were a thief, liar, drug dealer, drunkard, murderer, etc…, you would argue that they are nothing like you and would probably be highly offended. How must the LORD feel when we proclaim to be Christians, or little Christs, and continue living in our selfish, sinful ways?

As Philippians 3:14 states, we should “…press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Let’s take our Christianity seriously. The signs of the times attest to Christ’s coming drawing nigh. A true Child of God should be concerned and not want to be ashamed when the Savior returns. Let’s be ready!
